iPhone manufacturer Foxconn unveils the Foxtron Models C, D and U
At Hon Hai Tech Day 2024, Foxconn has unveiled the latest updates of its EV project under the brand name Foxtron. The Taiwanese tech giant, most famous for producing Apple iPhones, headlined three models as important: Model D, Model C, and Model U, arguably Foxconn's bold moves into the EV business.
Foxtron Model D: The Spacious MPV
Headlining the range is the huge Foxtron Model D people carrier, which stretches to five meters in length and boasts an impressively long 3.2-metre wheelbase to give it a placing in the class of large vans such as the Ford Transit Custom. The seven-seat MPV boasts an advanced 800V electrical architecture for faster charging and greater efficiency. For added smoothness, the Model D combines pneumatic and active suspension systems for a welcome extra 15 mm of clearance where needed.
Full detail on the powertrain remains a secret, but range is estimated at 380 km in WLTP. The Model D's aerodynamics were created in collaboration with iconic Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina. As stated by the chief creative officer at Pininfarina, Felix Kilbertus, below, "the interior space has been maximized within the constricted length to give the best visibility and a new style for large vehicles". With its monolithic body structure, an attempt has been made to give the Model D a more aerodynamic edge to position the product a step ahead of traditional SUVs.
Foxtron Model C: Versatile and Ready for Global Markets
Already quite a well-known face in the streets of Taiwan, the Foxtron Model C is locally sold as the Luxgen n7. It is an available five- or seven-seater SUV, with a 60kWh battery permitting up to 505 km of range. There has been talk of a prototype with an 80kWh battery but its specifications for a global release are still on the drawing board. Foxconn is working with the Taiwanese carmaker Yulon Group to prepare the Model C for the North American market, where it will go on sale in mid-2025.
Foxtron Model U: The Electric Bus
Rounding out the new releases is the Foxtron Model U, a mid-sized electric bus. While details of the Model U remain scarce at this time, it certainly seems apparent that Foxconn has its sights set on providing electric solutions for public transportation as well. Additional specifications are expected to be announced in the very near future. Foxconn's unveiling of the Foxtron Models C, D, and U marks increased ambition in the automotive sector, as it reveals a plan for expansion beyond Taiwan into North America. This new collaboration with prestigious partners such as Pininfarina and Yulon Group underlines Foxconn's commitment to delivering innovative electric vehicles for private and public use.
