New Jeep Compass Set to Launch Next Year with Both ICE and EV Power Options
The new, third-generation Jeep Compass makes its European appearance next year, a year before it will finally arrive in the U.S. in 2026. The all-new Compass will be built on Stellantis' STLA mid-sized platform, a serious leap forward for the model, which for the first time will offer an internal combustion engine and electric vehicle options. Conventional petrol or diesel engines will be joined by full-electric powertrains and hybrid combinations, with four-wheel drive becoming the norm across the board.
It hasn't issued any specific outputs for its powertrains yet, but given the wider family relationship, precise performance figures are likely to reflect other Stellantis stablemates, including the smaller Jeep Avenger. Currently, the Avenger comes in 101 bhp petrol and 158 bhp full-electric flavors, offering up 192 lb-ft of torque, a 248-mile range, and a 20-80% charge time of just 24 minutes. Perhaps similar performance yardsticks might be applied to the new Compass, but nobody's letting on just yet.
The teaser sketch that Jeep has released gives us an idea of what to expect, but it doesn't give away much in the way of specifics for the design. Judging from the silhouette, it would appear that the Compass would be set to take some of the Avenger design cues with a more robust-looking silhouette, strong wheel arches, and a front end that's been reworked with hints of an angular design of the headlight.
This generation's Compass is a watershed for the brand as it attempts to go electric while retaining some semblance of the off-road capability Jeep's known for. The all-electric variant will interest the ecologically conscious, but the traditional ICE and hybrid models will continue to reassure those who find a petrol or diesel engine reassuringly familiar.
With the flexibility inherent in the STLA platform, Jeep will surely provide a versatile vehicle for a variety of driving needs, from rugged terrain to city commuting. As the automotive sector is moving fast toward electrification, this next Jeep Compass is an intriguing blend of tradition and novelty-such that it maintains positions in the competitive SUV market. It is essentially a new frontier of the capability of Jeep in off-road motoring combined with advanced technology that the brand promises to its consumers.
