Upcoming Jaecoo J5 and V23 SUVs in Nepal – What to Expect?

SPG Automobiles, the official distributor of Omoda and Jaecoo in Nepal, has launched two new electric SUVs - the Jaecoo J5 and V23 - in a major expansion of their EV portfolio in the country. The launch was announced during their first anniversary celebration in Kathmandu, which is a strong indication of their commitment to Nepal's burgeoning electric vehicle market. Both models have vowed to combine cutting-edge electric technology with premium features to appeal to different segments of SUV enthusiasts. 

The Jaecoo J5 EV is a premium electric SUV that has already entered production. The model retains the stylish appearance of its ICE counterpart while incorporating distinctive EV elements like a blanked-off grille and aerodynamic wheels. Internally, drivers can expect a premium cabin with a 10.25-inch touchscreen that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, along with modern features like wireless charging and keyless entry. The J5 EV also doesn't hold back on comfort, featuring heated seats and a panoramic sunroof, though its exact battery specifications and range for the Nepalese market have not been officially revealed.

For the more adventure-seeking capabilities, the Jaecoo V23 EV presents a rugged electric off-roader option. As per the Chinese market specs that are likely to influence the Nepalese version, the V23 comes in diverse setups. Buyers get the choice of rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants, with power outputs ranging from 134 hp in the base variant to 211 hp in the top-of-the-line AWD variant. The battery options are equally varied, with CLTC-certified ranges that go from 301 km in the entry-level Youth Edition to 501 km for the range-topping AWD model and its 81.76 kWh battery. Despite all its off-road emphasis, the V23 isn't wanting for tech, with a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and leather seats on higher trims.

Both models have comprehensive safety features that will be appealing to Nepalese purchasers. Safety equipment will include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) as standard, along with handy aids like parking sensors and a reverse camera. The higher variants will offer more luxurious features like electric-adjustable seats and additional infotainment features.

Although SPG Automobiles is yet to announce official prices or launch timelines, industry sources suggest that the Jaecoo J5 EV could cost somewhere between NPR 60-80 lakhs, with the more feature-rich V23 EV likely to be priced at NPR 1-1.5 crore. Both these electric SUVs can be expected to reach Nepalese showrooms by late 2025 or early 2025, providing environmentally conscious consumers excellent new options in the luxury EV segment. The introduction of these models marks a big step forward in Nepal's electric mobility, combining green technology with the performance and versatility that SUV buyers are looking for. Prospective buyers can look forward to more detailed specifications in the run-up to launch, as well as the opportunity to get behind the wheel of these vehicles with test drives.
