Vehicle Description

Nepal's electric vehicle landscape takes a significant leap forward with the highly anticipated launch of the Mahindra XUV 9e at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo. Distributed exclusively by Agni Group, Mahindra's authorized partner in the country, the XUV 9e marks a bold step into the premium electric SUV segment, joining the BE 6 in Agni Group's electric portfolio and signaling Mahindra's serious commitment to Nepal's sustainable mobility future.

Built for the Future: The INGLO Advantage

Unlike retrofitted EVs, the XUV 9e is born electric, riding on Mahindra's ground-up INGLO skateboard platform. This significant R&D investment delivers a purpose-built electric architecture focused on space efficiency for large LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) Blade batteries, enhanced performance, and robust safety. The INGLO platform underpins the 9e's capabilities, incorporating advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), meeting stringent Global NCAP safety standards, and integrating Mahindra's MAIA ecosystem for AI-powered features, adaptive controls, and a driver monitoring system – all designed for a smarter, safer driving experience.

Distinctive Presence: Heartcore Design Philosophy

The XUV 9e makes a powerful visual statement with Mahindra's "Heartcore Design" language, blending emotional appeal with modern luxury and innovation. Its front fascia features striking jewel-like Bi-LED projector headlamps housed within a blacked-out V-shaped enclosure, framed by a sleek edge-to-edge LED DRL strip (with inverted L-shaped connected DRLs exclusive to Pack 3 Selection and Pack 3). An aggressively contoured bonnet and angular nose optimize aerodynamics. The profile showcases a coupé-like silhouette with a flowing roofline, distinguishing itself from the BE 6 with a slightly extended rear for increased practicality, riding on stylish 19-inch alloy wheels with true aero inserts. The rear is dominated by a dramatic full-width LED taillight with a centrally illuminated Mahindra logo, complemented by an upward-tapering bumper featuring a functional diffuser. Higher trims add convenience with a gesture-controlled power tailgate. Vibrant color options like Tango Red, Nebula Blue, Ruby Velvet, Desert Myst, Everest White, and Stealth Black complete its premium look.

A Tech-Focused Sanctuary: The Cabin Experience

Step inside the XUV 9e to discover a thoroughly modern and tech-laden cabin centered around a triple 12.3-inch display setup (instrument cluster, infotainment, and front passenger entertainment). This expansive digital interface surpasses the dual-screen setup of the BE 6. Despite sharing the same 2775mm wheelbase, the 9e's cabin feels notably more spacious and luxurious. Premium leatherette upholstery and power-adjustable front seats are standard, with front seat ventilation added in Pack 3 Selection and Pack 3. The two-spoke steering wheel offers tilt and telescopic adjustment. Enhancing comfort and convenience are a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and dual-zone climate control. The flagship Pack 3 variant elevates the experience further with a head-up display (HUD).

Performance Tailored for Nepal: Powertrain & Range

The XUV 9e arrives in Nepal in three distinct variants, with performance specifically adapted to local regulations:

  1. Pack 2 & Pack 3 Selection: Powered by a 99 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (136 PS, 380 Nm) paired with a 59 kWh LFP Blade Battery. Offers an MIDC-claimed range of 542 km.

    • Charging: 7.2 kW AC (0-100% ~9hrs), 11.2 kW AC (0-100% ~6hrs), 140 kW DC (20-80% ~20 mins).

  2. Pack 3 (Top Variant): Features a significantly more powerful 199 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (271 PS, 380 Nm) and a larger 79 kWh LFP Blade Battery. Delivers an MIDC-claimed range of 656 km (WLTP-tested at a very respectable 533 km).

    • Charging: 7.2 kW AC (0-100% ~12hrs), 11.2 kW AC (0-100% ~8hrs), 180 kW DC (20-80% ~20 mins). Includes five driving modes.

Important Note on Performance Adaptation: To align with Nepal's tax structure, motor outputs have been adjusted. The Pack 2 and Pack 3 Selection variants see a reduction from 170 kW to 99 kW, while the Pack 3 is slightly reduced from 210 kW to 199 kW. This has a more pronounced impact on the performance feel of the lower variants compared to the top-tier Pack 3.

Ride, Space, and Practicality

Suspension duties are handled by a McPherson Strut front and Five-Link Independent Rear setup on the Pack 2, while Pack 3 Selection and Pack 3 benefit from a more advanced Intelligent Adaptive Suspension. With dimensions of 4789 mm (L) x 1907 mm (W) x 1694 mm (H) and a kerb weight exceeding 2 tonnes, the XUV 9e is a substantial SUV. It offers generous ground clearance (207 mm overall, 218 mm at battery) for Nepali roads. Practicality is assured with a 150-litre front trunk (frunk) and a large 663-litre boot.

Entering the Arena: The BYD Sealion 7 Challenge

The XUV 9e steps into a competitive space, immediately locking horns with the recently launched BYD Sealion 7. This rivalry highlights contrasting strengths: BYD brings deep-rooted global EV expertise and battery leadership, while Mahindra leverages its decades of SUV heritage and a bold new design language. Comparing models in a similar price bracket (Sealion 7 sits between Pack 2 and Pack 3 Selection), the key differentiators emerge:

  • Powertrain/Range: While motor outputs are similar in comparable trims, the Sealion 7 typically boasts a larger battery, granting it a range advantage over the Pack 2/Pack 3 Selection.
  • Interior: The XUV 9e's triple-screen layout and design represent a dramatic leap for Mahindra, offering a unique and premium ambiance. BYD's Sealion 7, benefiting from extensive EV interior experience, presents a more refined and arguably cohesive cabin design compared to its earlier models.
  • Features/Value: Both offer strong tech (infotainment, ADAS, connectivity). However, matching the Sealion 7's feature set requires opting for the XUV 9e's Pack 3 Selection, which carries a higher price tag, creating a nuanced value equation for Nepali buyers.
